Multiple entries at Goodwood Revival in St Mary’s trophy – £80,000
This truly is a one of a kind car, the only racing MG YB in the UK and is a firm Goodwood favourite.
Built in 2019, the eclectic YB is not the most likely of race cars but is sure to get the crowd behind you.
Despite the car not looking like your average saloon body type, there is some great history behind the YB from 1952 where MG Works driver Dick Jacobs piloted a YB in the Production Touring Car race at the Daily Express meeting at Silverstone.
When Jacobs had heard of the race being formed, he went to MG in Abingdon to put forward to idea of MG running a YB to which he was left with the bosses horrified. He then realised that no one was going to help him at first until he contacted a man by the name of Tom Sangster who helped him gain access to a YB but they only had three weeks to prepare the car for the meeting! Even though the Jowett Javelins had more straight line speed than the YB, Jacobs managed to win the 1000cc class against the Works Jowetts and he even returned in 1953 this time with a second YB and Jacobs when onto winning the class for a 2nd year in succession. This was rounded by a hatrick of class victories in 1954 by Jacobs at the same event, bringing the life of the YB to brilliant end.
